Short answer

Your Instagram comments are listed under Your Activity, and each is deleted through Instagram’s own controls. There is no native way to clear the whole comment history at once. The extension scans that Comments list, shows what it found for review and leaves the selection yours before any delete attempt. Some comment dates are unavailable, and those comments stay out of date-dependent cleanup.

Limit

Some comment dates can be unavailable. The extension scans only comments attributed to the signed-in account.

Why native cleanup is hard

The platform controls work. They were never built for history, which is the friction people hit before they look for anything else.

  • Spread across other accountsYour comments live under other people’s posts, so nothing in the app collects them in one place.
  • Deleted one by oneThe native flow removes a single comment per interaction.
  • Dates can be missingWhere Instagram exposes no date, narrowing by year cannot include that comment.
  • Read as yours anywayA comment sits on someone else’s post but carries your name and handle.

What actually changes

The platform controls still do the deleting. The extension changes how you get to them.

What this page covers

Every way people ask for this.

How to delete comments on Instagram

Your comments live under other people’s posts, so nothing in the app gathers them. Your Activity lists them, and the extension reads that list so you can clear them as one set.

Delete all comments on Instagram

There is no native action that clears a comment history. The extension reduces the finding and the choosing; each removal still runs through Instagram’s own control.

Delete your own comments, not other people’s

The extension acts only on comments Instagram attributes to your account. Comments left by others on your posts are a different thing and are not included.

Remove old Instagram comments

Where Instagram exposes a date you can narrow to a period. Some comment dates are unavailable, and those stay outside dated cleanup.

Does deleting a comment delete the post

No. The post belongs to whoever made it and is untouched.

Delete Instagram comments without losing your account

Your posts, handle and followers are unaffected. Only your comments change.

Scan, review, then act.

The extension keeps discovery, selection and action as separate decisions.

  1. 01

    Scan the supported source

The implementation reads the current signed-in platform view and labels incomplete results.

  2. 02

    Review every selection

Apply supported date filters and keep any item you do not want to change.

  3. 03

    Attempt the native control

Availability depends on the platform and test status above. Submitted is not confirmed; incomplete verification stays unknown.

Why people do this

The reasons that bring people to this page, rather than a generic case for privacy.

A job search

Comments carry your name into threads you no longer remember writing in.

Privacy housekeeping

Reducing the record of where you have been active and who you talk to.

Old arguments

Replies under posts from years ago that you would not write today.

A fresh start

Keeping the account while clearing the commentary attached to it.

Questions

Specific answers for this activity type.

Does it delete comments on my posts?

Only if those comments are listed as your own activity and you select them. It does not delete other people’s comments.

What if a date is missing?

The comment stays visible for item-level review but is excluded from date-dependent cleanup.

Can I clear comments on a specific account’s posts?

Only by picking them out of the list yourself. There is no filter by the account you commented on.

Does the other person get notified?

No notification is sent when a comment is removed.

Can I recover a deleted comment?

No. Treat it as permanent and export anything that matters first.

Are replies to comments included?

If Instagram lists them as your activity, yes.

Will this restrict my account?

Unknown. Sudden volume can look unusual to any platform.

Does it work on the app?

No. Desktop Chrome only.

Do my comments leave my computer?

No. They stay in Chrome storage.

Why is this separate from likes and posts?

Because Instagram keeps them separate, and treating them as one category would make it easy to remove the wrong thing.

Before you remove anything

The extension has no public build yet. The free digital footprint checklist covers the wider cleanup that Instagram controls alone cannot handle.
